In this particular case in John chapter 5, the man Jesus had asked if he wanted to be well had been sick for 38 years. Think about it. If you were sick for 38 years, what type of emotions would you feel inside. Hopelessness? I bet after 38 years of being sick, Satan would have convinced you that you would never get well, that you might as well just "adapt" to this way of life. I'm sure people in the last 38 years had tried to help this man, perhaps he had been prayed for over and over and over again, and the man had no results. Perhaps the people around this man believed that this man was never going to get healed and quit "really believing" that he could get healed. He might as well just live like this until death.
But Jesus must have had another plan...
Jesus walks into this mans life, after 38 years, the man can not walk, he is hopeless, he is sick, weak and has given up. He also accepts that there is no one left to help him, and all he sees is excuses and sickness.
Jesus asks, "Do you want to be well"?
Jesus had to speak truth into this man, he had to get his perspective to change. He had to get this man's mind to stop thinking like a victim and start thinking like a overcomer again, He had to give the guy HOPE.
Do you need a new perspective? Do you keep focusing on the pills, the Dr's, the pain, the sickness, the death? It's time to give you HOPE.
Do you want to be well?....
Jesus, simply told him all he had to do was "Stand up, pick up your mat and walk". Let's look at that.
1) Stand up.... Take action...stop doing what you've always done
2) Pick up your mat... Clean yourself up, your life, tidy up, change the atmosphere, quit relying on the crutches.
3) and walk... have faith that you will be healed.
Remember friends, no matter how much you feel trapped in your way of life, Stand up, pick up your mat and walk. You can do this! Despite what you are going through, do not let it make you a hopeless victim, because God has another plan!
This man, was healed this very day, despite 38 years, despite no one helping him, despite his hopelessness. It was through Christ and his faith that he was healed!
You can be too!
