And it works for awhile.
Until someone says. "Search my heart, oh Lord, and find in me any wicked way"
When we "ignore our weaknesses" we are ignoring those exact spots where God is. Let me challenge your thinking for a minute.
You are preparing for Resurrection Sunday, and getting ready to spend time with family. You are already mentally preparing for "those people". You know the ones I'm talking about, the ones you are going to "put up with" to get through your day.
You will spend time laughing and joking, talking about life, eating dinner. Many will forget why you are even gathering. The gathering is to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and what it meant for our lives here on earth and our eternity. More than likely you might find a few moments to make a couple remarks about what someone said, or about what someone did. You might roll the eyes or wink in secret. You will tighten your jaw to keep from saying something out of line, to maintain your composure in front of the family. Then you might go home and on the way there, vent to your spouse about everything that annoyed you, just to get it out of your system and feel better about yourself.
It's there that you've missed God and where He's at.
Now let's do a quick check and make sure our balance is even. You have strengths and they are good. They are called your gifts. You received them. You didn't earn them and God said "they are good". Strengths are good. Typically, you can do them whether you put God in the mix or not, but it will be amplified by impacting others if you put Him in. God also said that "My strength is made perfect in YOUR WEAKNESS" and here's the balance. You can't ignore the weakness in someone, because that is where God is at. If you ignore it, you miss opportunities to be a part of God's plan. This is the place you see miracles happen. This is the place where faith grows. This is the thing that makes you scratch your head and say, "There's no way, that person did this, or changed like that". Because this is the place that only God can heal in you. In this place, you can not make it with or without God. God has to be here, and He has promised...
"I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU OR FORSAKE YOU"
This Easter, when you are celebrating with your families, take the time to love like Jesus loved you. Really celebrate the reason and practice the footsteps. Instead of ignoring our weaknesses, look for God in them, and meet Him there. Don't just love people for the food they cook, or the gifts they bring, the hugs they share or for the family picture. Love them in their weaknesses, and in yours. That is the place that God is in. Find opportunities, look for reasons. Ask for miracles and watch your faith grow.
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
God, thank you that you are in all areas of our lives. That there is not one place that you do not see. Thank you for never condemning us to hell, but rather you are always pursuing our hearts. Thank you for the tears that are shed when we are coming into line with your heart. Thank you for your sacrifice of your own Son, to save our lives. May we follow your heartbeat. In Jesus name. Amen
