Some people say that the Bible is just an old book written along time ago. That it wasn't meant for us. But as you start out in 1 Corinthians you see that, 'that' just isn't the case. Paul wasn't in this Christian thing for the short spurt, he was in it for the long haul. I know first hand that it can be easy to take a run at this Christian thing and really do good for a few hundred yards, but if you've exerted all your energy in that burst, you can get tired quickly if your running the 5K. Paul was in this for the long haul, and he fully intended to take you and me with him. How do I know?
1 Corinthians 1:1-3
New International Version (NIV)
Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
First, who called Paul to share the Gospel? Was Paul ordained by the church leaders? Did he go to school for being a preacher? Maybe a disciple took him along side and ministered to him and gave him the scrolls of the old testament? What I do know is that...Paul used to be Saul the Christian killer. God knocked Paul off his high horse. Have you ever had a Saul of Tarsus moment? Where no one could get through to you about God's love, so God came directly to you and did it himself? I did. That's how I understand how Saul was converted to Paul. Well Paul, was "called" to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God. You can be too, all you have to do is get to know the one who leads you.
Next who is the letter in 1 Corinthians wrote to? Read it...you will see "YOU" are in there. Paul is writing this specifically for you and me today to be able to understand the love of Christ and the way to eternal life. If you want it, it's there for you.
What does he want you to receive by this letter? Grace and Peace. To you.
