When my children were born I was in love with them the moment I saw them. I was in love with them before I saw them. I didn't know to love them immediately upon conception, because I didn't know they were there. The moment the bump on my belly began to grow, however, (very quickly I might add) I nurtured them and loved them. When I saw them I instantly loved them, there was no question.
I often think of those things when I'm trying to introduce someone to Jesus. I am trying to suggest to someone that they should be in love and give themselves completely to someone they may or may not have ever felt, and surely never seen.
We've never seen Jesus or God, or the Holy Spirit. We have no idea what they look like. The pictures we see are the artists imagination. There are no pictures, no paintings, there's nothing. We don't get to physically see them either. We can't physically touch them, we can't sit down and have a 2 way conversation with them like two humans can. It's not a relationship that we are accustomed to.
But yet, for those of us that love him, it's a powerful thing. Just like when that bump on my belly formed, I knew that the baby was in there. I couldn't see it. Pretty soon, I could feel little flutters and then full blown kicks. I began to love because I began to feel the presence. I couldn't see them, but I loved them. People tell me all the time, DON'T GO BY YOUR EMOTIONS. And although I understand why they are suggesting that... if it wasn't for my emotions, I would have not fallen in love with Jesus.
So why do I love him...because of the things he did for me not only on the cross a couple thousand years ago, but what he does for me in my life today. He loves me. How do I know? The Bible tells me so.
1 Peter 1:8,9
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
We would love You no matter what you looked like. We have fallen in love you with because our hearts believed and our spirits connected with yours knowing that you loved us first and died on a cross to save us from our sins. Help keep us close to you in all our ways, correct us sternly when we are being lead astray so that we can be with you forever in eternity. Thank you for our emotions that allow us to love. In Jesus name, AMEN.
