13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by[d] the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
I'm actually a little bit saddened by the scriptures today. It's hard to think that some people are not headed for an eternity in heaven. I just can't imagine it. I also am surprised to see that it talks about Jesus not praying for the world. I do recall however that the past scriptures said that God will continue to call the world and that Jesus is responsible for those that obeyed the calling. Which makes perfect sense why there is such a strong division between Christ and the world. It's not that the world isn't being called, it's that the world is not receiving the sacrifice that was offered for their sins, which in return is why they don't understand the connection and are not receiving salvation.
I love how Jesus talks about giving his believers "joy". I know that even Christians can walk around in depression. I've walked in and out of it many times not quite understanding where "joy" is found. I do know that as a believer living for Christ there are many things that come against our faith and it is disguised in many ways. Most people call it being a "judgmental Christian." Do they know something we don't, or is it simply that there is a division between the world and God?
As a Christian you should have already received forgiveness through God's sacrifice, but if not, that is where you need to start. Even if you've been a Christian for a time, you may need to revisit that forgiveness. After that you must go through a daily purification of your mind and hearts by reading and obeying God's word as he leads you into truth. This can be confusing and frustrating because there are a lot of people who tell you lots of ways that you should live. My advice for anyone who has too many voices telling them too many things, is to get to a place where you only obey God's voice...and you will know his voice as still and small. God will never condemn you, scream at you, or panic you. His voice does not sound like anxiety, I've heard it... it's "matter of fact", "calm", "truthful" and "stern" yet "full of love".
