PLANTING SEEDS: (Truth)

Scripture Memorization : John 1:48-51 (NIV)
“How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”

COFFEE CUP COUNSELING: (My Personal Perspective)
I remember when I first came to Christ, I was at a very rock bottom low. You might hear me say this a lot, but so much has changed since then!  My marriage was falling apart, I was falling apart and I reached for the Bible.  When I opened it up and started to read, just a few passages, it was like the words came off the page at me and like a double edged sword pierced my heart.  I had opened up to a scripture that reflected a life style I had been living and what God thought about it.  The truth of God’s word stabbed me so hard, I wept.  Not in shame, but in remorse.  I was so sorry for the things I had been doing.  It wasn’t by reading the entire bible that that took place, it was just a few short passages.

From there, I got one of these children’s daily bedtime reads and I would begin to read to my children each night.  Just a few short passages, but in those passages, truth continued to pierce my heart and I had several “awakening moments”.  From a children’s book with just one scripture per page, and we read one page a night.  I asked my new Pastor, “what is that, what is that when it’s like the word just jumps off the page and it’s like God is just speaking directly to me”?  Pastor told me it was called “Rhema”.  Each time it would happen it was like I got a huge adrenaline rush, like it was intense!  Sometimes the scripture was correction, sometimes it was love, but every time it was right on target and it came to do exactly what God intended.  Not only was it piercing my heart, but it was also piercing my children’s hearts and my husbands.  Now I’m not talking about sitting down and reading the entire Bible for this to take place, I’m talking about 1 or 2 verses.  Just like what we do here.

See, with me sharing my blog or video with you, it is never me that is teaching.  It is me sharing what God has done in my life, and most importantly it is me sharing God’s truth.  Just like when I read to my children just a short passage each night, the importance wasn’t how much I was reading, it was what was happening to that scripture when it entered my and my families heart.

There are people like Ravi Zacharias, whom I absolutely am fascinated by, that can take scripture and dig so deep in it that only the top minds can understand.  I’m not a top mind.  My son, Zach, is and he is able to clearly understand Ravi, however I only pick up a couple cool pieces of his teachings and only because I’ve been studying scripture for about 12 yrs.  So what if you are like me, or what if you just accepted Jesus in your life, or what if your only 7 yrs old, it might be hard for you to understand the depth in which Ravi teaches.  Does that mean, you are not as spiritual?  Absolutely not!  God comes and opens wisdom to anyone that calls and believes in his Son, Jesus, and he can do it, with 1 passage.  Not only that, but the first Bible I read, so I could remotely understand, was a comic book bibles.

You see, the importance is that you make it a priority to put God first in everything you do.  Now there are a wonderful amount of people out there speaking God’s word.  Some are preaching truth and some are preaching their opinion.  It’s great to come along side all these people and rub shoulders, but you’ll never have a Rhema experience unless you get into the word personally yourself.  Rhema does not come from people, it comes from God.

For instance, one time I was in church and my Pastor had said the word Salatarsus several times.  I had no idea what that “educated” word meant.  So I just picked up the rest of the sermon as I could.  One Sunday, Pastor used it again for probably the 20th time and this time, I sat straight up and said mistakenly out loud during his sermon OH, Saul of Tarsus Moment!!!  Although that is quite funny, and quite the revelation, that is not a Rhema.

A Rhema is like when God told Nathaniel he knew him, and Nathaniel asked him how, and Jesus said, because I saw you under the fig tree.  Nathaniel knew at that very moment, because what ever he was doing under that fig tree, only God could have known.

There’s also a story about a woman who came to draw water from the well and Jesus told her everything about her life.  Things only God could know… that’s a Rhema.  When God speaks things into or to your life that only he could possibly know.

We can have them too, all the time…but in order for you to understand, what it’s like for God to speak directly to you, you have to stop relying on people to feed it to you and make it a priority to get into God’s word, his truth, every day.  This is why I take 10 minutes each day to share my blog with you.  It’s short, so there’s time.  Not only am I learning, but I’m taking what I learn and sharing it with someone else.  You.

I spent my life around people who have told me that they are too busy.  I’m sure you’ve heard it too.  I found myself, starting to say it also, so a few years ago, I prioritized.  My priorities became, God first, my husband next, then my children and then TIME, because without time, it’s hard to enjoy life and it’s even harder to share it with anyone else, who has a need for Christ.

So share away. Speak truth, set the captives free!
