Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
COFFEE CUP COUNSELING: (My Personal Perspective)
For the better part of my life, I’ve struggled with worry, anxiety, tension, frustration. Looking back on it, most of the things I worried about, I had absolutely no control over. You know, all those things in life that are in some way in some one else’s hands. I can point out each and every one of every major cause of worry in my life, and there was not one thing that I was fully in control of. Sure there were some things I could do for my part to make the situation easier, but ultimately, there was nothing I could guarantee an outcome over.
Think about those things that make you worry. Do you have full control over them?
Most times, we find ourselves in fear over situations we are not able to control. We find our mind trying to resolve things that either have not happened yet, or that could happen. Many times, we are anxious about imaginary events that have not even taken place. Other times, we find ourselves smack dab in an earthquake in our lives that is very much real and we have no answers for.
I know that I when I became worried or anxious over things, I found myself suffering physical difficulties. Nervousness, sleeplessness, headaches, difficulty breathing, until I finally began to have panic attacks. Those in itself can be overwhelming and scary.
I knew that I was not capable of maintaining a lifestyle that revolved around worry and anxiety and I began to dig into scripture. After eliminating “busyness” out of my life, and focusing on Christ, I was able to get it under control.
However, it was ultimately my son, Zach who provided the AHA moment for me to really grad ahold of worry and almost completely eliminate it. Zach has always been my child that really never had time for worry. When he was a little boy, and would be afraid of the dark, he would force himself to confront it and get over it. He could not stand fear or worry. Later on in life, I found myself wanting to light a bit of a fire under his behind on situations I felt like he should show a little more heightened emotion on.
Until he corrected me.
Mom, he said, if we are living for God and we are sure that God has our best interest in mind, then we do not have to worry about anything. God has the beginning and end already in place. Once we have accepted Jesus, and we continue to keep our eyes on him, we don’t have to worry any longer, because we know we are loved and will be taken care of in the best possible way.
And my friends, when you get a hold of the reality of that….life changes.
So share away. Speak truth, set the captives free!
