The Great Commission
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

COFFEE CUP COUNSELING: (My Personal Perspective)
Happy Veterans Day!  This day always reminds me of the men and woman who stand for the freedom of our country.  Thank you so much for your sacrifice.

In particular, Veteran’s Day, reminds me of my Grandpa Charles Russell Wyman, “Rusty”.  Not only was my Grandpa a hero for the United States, as were many others, but he was also my personal hero.  My grandpa for many years told me he hoped I would become an ordained minister.  In title, that never came to pass before he did.  But in heart, I became commissioned through Christ many years ago, and Grandpa was able to witness that take place in me.

I would love to see you commissioned to share the Gospel as well! I feel like too many times, we tell people their worth, and see their gifts, but then we hold them back for one reason or another.  Not enough experience, or not mature enough, or they haven’t been to a Pastoral College, or they don’t have their own church.  All the while, we are holding back the multitudes who sincerely were called a long time ago, even though a man didn’t give them a certificate, to share the gospel.

I met a lady in Sioux Falls, SD a few months ago, who spoke into my life.  She encouraged a message that God has already instilled in my heart.  She told me that her job in the church was to find out what “gifts” the members had, and then plug them in to those gifts.  My heart literally leaped in my chest!  That was it!  Now, we’ve probably heard that we are “so needed” in the church.  But what do we actually see?  We are needed to fill in where the leadership has a need.  That is needed, yes, but if we are not working in our own gifting and we are just filling in where others have a need, or ONLY filling up the pews to listen to someone else's gifts we are not as effective as we could be.

So what is the criteria, to lead people to Christ?

Well, in my opinion, based on the book of Acts when Jesus is telling the disciples they must wait until the power of the Holy Spirit falls upon them, I would say that once you have accepted Jesus into your life and asked the Holy Spirit to lead you, you will have met the criteria of sharing the gospel with others.  The Bible tells us that those who live in the world, can not understand the kingdom teachings.  But it also says that those that have ears (those that have come to Christ) let them hear and have understanding.  In other words, by accepting Jesus and asking the Holy Spirit to guide you, God removes the veil from your spiritual eyes, and you will begin to see the living word for the first time.

So what if you make a mistake sharing the gospel?

Even those that walked directly with Jesus couldn’t do all that Christ did, they found themselves confused and had to ask Jesus what they did wrong.  Jesus didn’t say, ok, you are not worthy to preach the gospel because you didn’t cast out those demons.  Instead, he provided further instruction as to what to do.  Same for you, if something doesn’t work, go to prayer, read the word, ask Jesus what needs to be done and then wait for his answer. Several times in the Bible things didn't come to pass until long before we do. Crazy I know,  but don’t get discouraged and give up.  One time I was teaching Bible Study and I said that babies are born without sin.  One lady sternly spoke up and stopped me in my tracks.  Her look of disgust was all it took to shut me down from teaching, I turned in my teaching hat and told Pastor I was done and just like that I was.  I never taught another Bible study there.  Now a couple things should have been done.  I was so concerned about teaching something wrong that when I did, I couldn’t take the correction.  You should absolutely question anyone who is teaching unless it is Jesus.  Many times, we preach what we know.  I was trying to make a point that babies go directly to heaven because they are not accountable for their sins until a certain age.  I messed up my words and said they were born without sin, but what I really meant is that they were not accountable.  Now how do we know this to be truth?  Is that something we were taught over our arguments of whether or not to baptize at birth?  What scripture backs this theory up?  Do you know?  If so, please share, because to this day, I still have no answer in scripture.  I’d love to find out.  The next thing is when I clammed up with fear that I had done something wrong, instead of just letting me go, I should have been discipled, or disciplined.  Discipline in Christ isn’t punishment, it’s direction and correction.  Which is 100% love. Don’t allow yourself or others to give up or get discouraged because of correction.  Instead, spur them on, keep them going in their gifts, get them right back on that horse if they fall and and help them gain wisdom through Christ and experiences!!!

After all, didn’t Jesus say, “let the little children come to me”.  Everyone who lives for Christ is commissioned to share Truth.  Everyone.  Read the scripture again, Jesus said “all authority has been given to me” which means you might shoot for a certificate to follow a religious doctrine so you can get paid to preach in a church, but the authority to make disciples only comes from Christ, not man.  You don’t need to wait for certification, you need to only wait for the Holy Spirit.  Because my friends, without the power of the Holy Spirit, we have no power in our own ability.  The power is only given to those that accept Jesus and live by the leading of the Spirit.

So listen, my prayer for you today, is that if you haven’t already, would you ask Jesus to be your personal Savior, to forgive your sins, to ask the Holy Spirit to come lead your life, get into God's word and that you would share in the commission of spreading truth.  Now if you want to go on to get a certificate to be paid to preach, great, go do it! We need more of you!!!!  But, don’t believe for one second that you need a certificate to preach Truth and to share Jesus.  We will be commissioned to do that until the end of the age.  Jesus said, freely you have received, now freely give!

So share away.  Speak truth, set the captives free!

SHARE WITH A FRIEND:
Studies indicate that if we share what we have learned with someone else within 24 hours of being taught, the chances of it remaining in our memory is increased.  If you have had a friend, relative, or anyone come to mind while reading this blog, please share this with them!  You can text it, post it to Social Media, Discuss it at Bible Study, watch my YouTube Channel or print this blog out, invite a friend to have coffee and discuss!  It’s easy!
